Susan Scafidi
, professor at Fordham University School of Law and founder of the Fashion Law Institute, will sit down for an interactive discussion with Rachel Dooley, IP lawyer, jewelry designer and CFDA member, covering recent developments in the intersections of law, fashion and design.  Copyright protection pre- and post- Star Athletica will be covered along with the inherent differences in the way the law views jewelry and clothing design.  We will discuss arguments against enhancing protection for the fashion industry, including continuing claims that “knockoffs” and even counterfeit copies may be beneficial for brands, and the future of legislative efforts including in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.

At the end of the discussion, attendees will be provided with materials and tools to create a one of a kind necklace based on GEMMA REDUX designs and techniques with instruction by Rachel Dooley.
